Research on cross-cultural neuropsychology in the Netherlands and beyond
Abstract: As Europe experiences a demographic shift, with an increasingly diverse aging population, there is an increasing need for culture-sensitive neuropsychological assessments. In this presentation, I will introduce these demographic trends in Europe, emphasizing the aging of diverse populations and their heightened risk of cognitive impairment due to the increased prevalence of risk factors such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and lower socioeconomic status. The main part of the presentation will introduce our research into neuropsychological tests specifically designed for diverse populations in the Netherlands, such as the NAME and the TULIPA battery. Furthermore, I will highlight how the European Consortium on Cross-Cultural Neuropsychology was formed, a collaborative initiative that brings together expertise from various European countries, and present its goals and achievements up until now.
